Mr Matay Arsan grew up in the Netherlands and throughout his younger years, he was interested in different types of martial arts including Jiu-Jitsu, Taekwondo and Shorinji Kempo. He played football to almost professional level and was scouted for FC Twente – Enschede (Dutch Premier League). He graduated from medical school in Amsterdam and enrolled for his Trauma & Orthopaedic surgical training in Germany.
His sub-specialty training continued through an intensive 3-year hand surgery training at the competitive Hand Zentrum Lingen, of one of the pioneers in in total-wrist arthroplasty surgeon in Germany.
Following completion, he was then appointed Lead Hand Surgeon of the Trauma & Orthopaedics Department of St. Bonifatius Hospital. He gained experience working in the academic teaching hospitals affiliated to the University of Münster and the University of Hannover, where his post incorporated trauma and management of both non-operative & operative management of high/low-velocity injuries as well as sports injuries.
Mr Arsan has been a substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2012. He is currently the Lead Hand & Wrist Surgeon at the Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London.
Mr Arsan consistently uses up to date techniques such as the WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anaesthetics No Tourniquet) as well as evidence-based treatments and minimally invasive (including keyhole) surgeries, which enables him to achieve good surgical outcomes. His patients are treated as day cases and can return home after surgery. He works closely with certified hand therapists, to ensure the best outcome during the post operative rehab.
